Binge-Worthy: Romantic Comedies

28 November 2017

Living on Violet Circle, a place that’s less of a neighborhood and more of an insane asylum poured into the street, I thought I was prepared for anything. After you’ve seen a woman strip down at the laundry room to wash the clothes she’s wearing, then saunter across the street naked, you’ve seen it all, right?
How naïve I was.
After the factory closed, leaving me and a good portion of the town unemployed, I took a job managing Scarlet Toys. I knew it wouldn’t be a typical work environment, selling adult toys in a town more uptight than a constipated nun, but some things you just never see coming.
Like the protesters covered in poison ivy, screaming about smut peddlers.
Or a dancing dinosaur named Fappy.
Or the allure of the man standing in the center of all the chaos.
Wyatt Lawson, a six foot, four inch heap of muscle with a quick smile, ignited my interest in more than the available manager position. Like the missionary one. Or the rodeo. Maybe the side rider. What can I say? I’m an overachiever.
Let’s just hope he doesn’t scare too easily.

Funniest book I’ve read in a long time! I would expect nothing less from this author. The story captures your attention, and it keeps you there, until you run out of pages to read. The characters are all amazing. I loved them all for different reasons. This story just has it all. This is my second book written by this author, and once again, I want more!!

When is your birthday?
July 9th! I’m the most stereotypical Cancer out there—I’m moody and reclusive and I go great with butter, as all crabs do.
Why did you choose to write for the genre that you do?
I used to write traditionally published Young Adult under a different name, and while I loved doing that, there’s something really elemental about romance. I think there’s so much freedom to examine issues of feminism and class and queerness, and to do it with a sense of joy and optimism. All romances end with a Happily Ever After, and there’s something so magnetic about that idea, since we live in a world where hardly anyone gets an HEA.
If you could go anywhere in the universe, where would you go, and why?
I love every corner of Ireland and the UK that I’ve visited, but there’s one spot smack in the middle of England, near Bakewell. It’s a medieval manor house called Haddon Hall, and there’s a shallow, splashing river and grim looking stone walls and tumbledown gardens spilling over with the biggest roses you’ve ever seen in your life. I would live there the rest of my life if they’d let me.
What are three things that you always keep handy at all times?
My phone—loaded with tons of books, I read on the toilet and in line at the grocery store and at stoplights—five extra hairbands on my wrist, and some emergency scotch.
What is one thing that most people do not know about you?
I have narcolepsy! It’s a sleep disorder that gives me very vivid dreams and makes me constantly tired. I don’t have cataplexy (in other words, I don’t drop like a fainting goat) but I do have pretty frequent sleep attacks, and I do really need lots of sleep.
What is the weirdest thing that you have ever googled?
Well, there’s been lots of them, LOL. How long does it take blood to congeal? What household items make emergency lube? Did ancient Romans tweeze or wax their buttholes? Did Lyndon Johnson yell at people while he pooped in the Oval Office bathroom?
What is your most favorite time in History?
My favorite time to live would be right now, actually because deodorant! Vibrators! Great British Bake Off! But my favorite time to read novels about is generally located between 1000 CE and the 1940s (I love historical fiction.) My favorite time to read nonfiction is like ancient, ancient times. Paleolithic through the Iron Age.
Who are three women in time, real or imaginary, worth looking up to?
Michelle Obama, Malala Yousafzai, and Jane Eyre
What is the most attractive, and the first thing you notice, about a person?
If it’s a man, it’s either the hands or the throat. There’s something about a pair of big, capable-looking hands, or a strong throat with that adam’s apple pitched in the middle. If it’s a woman, it’s her mouth—the curve of her lips, the way she smiles and talks…
What kind of drunk person do you turn into when you drink?
A TALKATIVE ONE. Oh man, if you ever hang out with me at a hotel bar during a signing weekend, you are in for more Sierra chatter than you’ll know what to do with!
What is your favorite 90’s throwback jam?
Woman by White Town. It’s so playful with queerness and gender and I love it. Also anything by Blur or Placebo or Oasis. (Clearly I have a 90s British fetish!)
Do you eat your feelings, or starve them?
I DRINK THEM.
What is your biggest baddest guilty pleasure?
Bad porn. Like I pay money for lots of gorgeous, ethically sourced porn (I really recommend Trenchcoat X and A Four Chambered Heart) but every once in a while, I just want a fraternity gangbang or something with a stepbrother.
If only one of your books could be turned into a movie, which one would you choose and why?
I think my current series, The New Camelot Trilogy, would make a good miniseries on a premium cable channel that was open to lots of sex! But in general, I get shy when I think about movie adaptations because there’s so much that can go wrong, and also my books are so heavy on the sex and the internal angst, I’m not sure they’d translate well to the screen!
Who is your favorite author, and/or what is your favorite book?
Charlotte Bronte, Jane Eyre. Every time I re-read it, I find something new. It’s smart and angsty and gorgeous and brooding and stirring. It’s everything.
Do you ever hide secrets in your books that only a few people would find?
I’m never sure who will catch what, but I love to put in a sly reference to my other books here and there. In American Prince, there’s a reference to Logan O’Toole from Porn Star, and in American Queen, Ash and Greer are married by Father Jordan Brady, who is a character from Priest.
What was the hardest scene, or book, for you to write?
American King for sure has been the hardest book I’ve ever written! It’s the longest, and it’s also the first time I’ve ever attempted a trilogy of full-length books, and I was so worried I wouldn’t be able to pull it off. (I’m still not sure I did, haha!)
What is your most favorite quote or lyric?
Oh man, I have too many to tell! But this one has been on my mind a lot lately:
“I know I have the body of a weak and feeble woman, but I have the heart and stomach of a king, and of a king of England too.” –Queen Elizabeth I
If you were forced to open a bakery, what would you name it?
Cuntmuffins!

Would You Rather…

Know the history of everything you touch, or be able to speak to animals?
The history of everything I could touch! And then I would retire early and travel the world touching literally everything I wanted. Stonehenge. Cave paintings and ancient temples. Michael Fassbender’s bed.

Looking Forward…

What are you currently working on?
I’m currently working on Sinner, which is the companion/sequel to Priest, and featuring Father Bell’s brother Sean and a young nun.
What other plans do you have with your writing?
I’m most excited about 2018—I am going to be writing for the Misadventures series from Waterhouse Books and I think those stories are going to be a blast!
When is your next book possibly going to release?
I’m looking at late January or February for Sinner. Fingers crossed!

This tight end is at the top of his game.
He’s good with his hands, even better with his sexy mouth, and the best at making me forget my own name. His—ahem—stats are perfect. But I can’t fall for him. He might be everything I want, all rolled into a glorious package of gridiron god, but there’s one teeny-tiny problem. The vile, loathsome team I’ve spent my entire life hating—my beloved school’s arch-rival? This guy is their star player.

I decided to read this story, based solely on the fact that I loved every book written by this author previously. I didn’t even bother reading the blurb, because I knew that I would love her reading style, and I knew that the characters and story would draw me in. Also, despite my absolute love for sports, I haven’t really jumped into a lot of sport romances. With that all being said....I was not disappointed at all. Everything about this story was fantastic. The heroine was just the right amount of sassy, and the hero was the perfect shade of steamy. Together they were addictive and everything you need for a fun sexy read! Buy this book, better yet, but all books written by this author, because she cannot write a terrible story. I LOVED THIS BOOK!!

When is your birthday?
Jan 2nd!
Where did you grow up?
Delaware, born and raised and still here!
Are you a morning person, or a night person?
Night person through and through. I’ve always been a night owl.
Why did you choose to write for the genre that you do?
It’s just what I love to write and the stories come to me easily.
What is your favorite season or holiday?
I love the spring and fall. Those two are my favorite seasons. The smells and beautiful scenery are what do it for me.
If you could go anywhere in the universe, where would you go, and why?
In the universe? I wish I knew more about space! I’ll stay on Earth and say I’d love to see Irish castles because I think they’re beautiful and a lot of my ancestry is Irish.
If you could live with one person living, dead, or imaginary for one year in a tiny one bedroom apartment, who would you choose and why?
Oh my, this is a hard one. I would have to pick …. I’m struggling here!
What are three things that you would put on your Bucket List?
See all the wonders of the world. Learn to say I love you in as many languages as possible. Visit all 50 states. Get a coffee cup from each ;) Go Scuba Diving and snorkeling in Bora Bora. There are so so so many things I want to do!!
What is the wallpaper on your cellphone?
Of my babies. Back when they were babies.
What are three things that you always keep handy at all times?
Coffee, my phone, and a hair clip.
What inspires you, or where do you look for inspiration?
When I try to sleep, inspiration just comes!
What is one thing that most people do not know about you?
Umm … my pinky is crippled. It’s curved just slightly. I was born with it a little crooked like that!
What is the weirdest thing that you have ever googled?
How to silently kill someone with a knife. If the FBI ever looks up my history on this computer, I’m screwed.
What is one piece of advice that you would give to future generations? To the opposite sex?
Make the other person happy and they’ll want to make sure you’re happy. It’s that simple.
What is your most embarrassing moment?
I threw up on my husband (then boyfriend) in the middle of the night in his bed. I’d taken a Benadryl with wine and you really SHOULD NOT! It was awful, but he proposed two months later! If that didn’t scare him away I guess nothing will.
What is your most favorite time in History?
I’m not the biggest fan of history classes, but I will say that the 50s and women finding their voice and fighting for equality is definitely something that comes to mind and gives me a lot of motivation and inspiration.
What is the most attractive, and the first thing you notice, about the opposite sex?
Shoulders. I don’t know why but I find shoulders extremely sexy.
Who is the first person you call when you are having a bad day?
My hubby or my sister.
What kind of drunk person do you turn into when you drink?
I get happy and goofy.
How would you describe your favorite color to a blind person?
It’s the color of the small flowers called violets. It’s the color of the sunset only on rare days. Sometimes the ocean looks this color, but again it’s rare. It comes in a variety of shades sparse in nature but it’s soothing and calming when you see it.
If you could be any color in the big box of crayons, which one would you be?
Purple.
What do you put on your pizza?
Anything EXCEPT mushrooms. Which is what hubby likes on his pizza lol
What is your favorite ice cream flavor?
Strawberry!
Do you eat your feelings, or starve them?
I eat them and then spit them out constantly and make sure everyone knows how I feel lol
What is your biggest baddest guilty pleasure?
I don’t think it’s that bad but I love ice cream after sex and pedicures all the time.
Do you ever google yourself?
I haven’t … but I’m going to now!
What is one food, or drink, that you could NEVER give up?
Coffee – duh!
If you could be on any reality TV show, which one would you choose?
A real housewives show or Big Brother.
If you were on death row, what would your last meal be?
Outback sirloin and shrimp skewer. I love that dish – I can already taste it!
Are you a Clutter Queen or a Neat Freak?
Neat Freak all the way!
If you were forced to open a bakery, what would you name it?
Sugary Sweets!
What is your biggest pet peeve?
Chewing with your mouth open – I hate that!
If there was a movie release about your life, who would you want to play you, who would play your love interest, and what type of movie would it be?
My love interest – Ryan Reynolds <3 nuff said!

Would You Rather…

See but never smell, or hear but never taste?
Oh gosh. I’ll go with See but never smell because I don’t want to give up taste!
Have the hiccups for the rest of your life, or always feel like you got to sneeze but never actually do it?
Hahahaha!! This is a funny one. I’ll go with hiccups!
Know when you are going to die, or know how you are going to die?
oooh gosh. I’m going to go with when.
Be alone for the rest of your life, or forever be surrounded by annoying people with bad body odor?
Ahh! I guess I would be alone, but I have access to internet right? Please say yes!
Always have to speak and write what’s on your mind, or never be able to speak or write again?
Always have to speak and write – I have to make that choice because to never be able to write or speak again would be horrible!
Be forever itchy, or be forever sticky?
EEEeep! I’m going to go with sticky, just because I hate being itchy. Although they do have a cream for itching… I’ll stick with my choice though.
Be able to teleport wherever you want, or be able to read minds whenever you want?
Read minds! I could be like Sookie from True Blood!
Know the history of everything you touch, or be able to speak to animals?
Know the history. That would be amazing.
Live your worst day ever, over and over again, for one year; or lose one year of your life completely?
OMGosh! that’s a brutal one! The first sounds like torture, so I’ll take a year off my life.
Be permanently transported 200 years into the future, or be permanently transported 200 years into the past?
oooh – in the future!

Looking Forward...
What are you currently working on?
Damaged – the third book in the Sins and Secrets Series of Duets. I’m in absolute LOVE with it!
What other plans do you have with your writing?
To never ever stop and write all the stories I come up with – or at least as many as I can keep up with!
When is you next book possibly going to release?
November 14th!
